Nina Hall became a teacher because she loves learning, which is probably best evidenced by her string of degrees from the University of Colorado, Massachusetts, and West Florida. Traveling, though, has been her most exciting education. She has traveled to 35 countries, lived overseas for 8 years, and taught ELL, language arts, and history in Singapore, Myanmar, and the Dominican Republic. Nina’s teaching and learning philosophy is founded on fun. After all, when students are enjoying the lesson, they’re interested, paying attention, and excited to engage with the material. This creates a combination that naturally fosters self-motivation and memorable learning. For that reason, Nina works hard to make her classes exciting, particularly through project-based learning strategies that culminate in community-oriented interaction or presentations.

Jeffrey Machado’s fascination with language has followed him on his journeys from Jupiter, Florida to across the world and now here at Raffles American School. He is dual licensed in English as a Second Language and English Language Arts with an endorsement in Sheltered English Instruction. Jeffrey’s experience spans from phonics and literacy instruction to students in Taiwan up to debating hot topic issues with a group of international PhD students from diverse backgrounds in Tallahassee, Florida. After spending time in Penang, Malaysia several years ago, Jeffrey is excited to be back in Malaysia and be part of the Raffles family. He loves the process of helping students learn the social and academic language that will help their personalities shine and lead them to success in and out of the classroom. Outside of school, he’s usually found pursuing professional and personal development, playing PC games, or shopping for yet another pair of suspenders.

Allyson was born and raised in Charleston, SC. She received a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and is certified in Early Childhood Education as well as teaching English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL). She has been teaching for 9 years and her experiences range from ESL services to Kindergarten – 2nd Grade regular education. During university, Allyson was given opportunities to teach in a village in Ghana and the countryside of China. These experiences were the reason she fell in love with international teaching. She has since taught in the USA in Florida, Indonesia, Morocco and China. Allyson husband Trent is also a teacher and they have a beautiful daughter named Gracyn. When Allyson isn’t chasing a toddler around, she enjoys reading, traveling, being outside and learning language.

George is from southern Florida. He is an ex-Navy submariner, which allowed him to travel a bit through Asia. After leaving the service, he studied English at Florida International University. After graduating, he continued his travels, first to Honduras where he taught for nearly 16 years. During which time, he held a number of roles from primary school homeroom teacher, high school subject teacher, and University instructor. He also ran his own elementary school for a number of years in Juticalpa, Honduras. In 2016 he left Honduras to teach in Taiwan and a year later in China, at Concordia International School, before coming to Raffles American School. He has a 12 year old son, is fluent in Spanish, loves to travel and enjoys cooking.

Brittany graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2015 with a degree in Secondary English Language Arts Grades 6-12. She then moved to China where she taught English to students of all ages and proficiency levels. An incredibly passionate and keen teacher, Brittany has also completed a Master's degree in Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) online through Sam Houston State University before moving to Malaysia.
